Inside the California Institution for Women is the first inmate-initiated and -led group in U.S. prison history: Convicted Women Against Abuse (CWAA). Its story shatters the misconceptions of domestic violence.
Sin by Silence offers a unique gateway into the lives of women who are domestic violence’s living worst-case scenarios – women who have killed their abusers. Most of them may remain in prison for the rest of their lives, but they are committed to helping others understand the reality of domestic violence – trying to keep others from following the same path. Some of their work of helping others to understand abuse has led to legislative changes.
These stories of terror and hope lay bare the cycle of violence, revealing the signs of an abuser and indicating how each and every one of us is responsible for changing the tragedy of domestic violence.
